Director of Finance and Administration

IMMEDIATE OPENING

 

Summary

Director of Finance and Administration sought for small, national 501c-3 public health membership association located in Washington, DC.   Seeking experienced CPA, hands-on and self-motivated individual to lead our accounting department and report to CEO.  Candidate must have 3-4 years of experience in the accounting/audit field related to non-profit work. Knowledge of OMB Circulars (A-110, A-122 and A-133), experience with nonprofit boards, full charge bookkeeping, payroll, and some HR experience.

 

Responsibilities

1.       Management of accounting processes and procedures

§  Develop and oversee accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to meet both current and future business models.

§  Maintain accurate books and records.

§  Prepare monthly journal entries (including payroll labor distribution allocations) and general ledger reconciliations/analysis.

§  Prepare monthly reporting package, including comparative reports of GAAP operating results, financial position, variance analysis and cash flow reports.

§  Oversee the cash management function, including banking relationships and prepare bank reconciliations.

§  Present monthly financial results to the Finance Committee and other reports as requested.

§  Oversee Office Manager and PT Accounting Asst.

§  Financial tracking, reporting and requests to draw funds for grants/cooperative agreements, in accordance with government stipulations.

 

2.       Budgeting and forecasting

§  Draft general and administrative budgets, with senior leadership.

§  Assist with preparation of quarterly, semi-annual project specific and corporate reporting package.

§  Assist senior leadership with long-range financial planning.

 

3.        Support accounting, annual tax returns and other reporting procedures

§  Organize and oversee Audit/Tax preparation process, including requested documents for annual audit and tax return prepared by independent auditors.

§  Prepare monthly forecast update, primarily by working closely with senior leadership heads in forecasting their department’s overheads.

§  Support senior leadership by preparing reports required for federal grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.

§  Prepare or review the city business licenses, personal property tax and other government forms as needed.

§  Oversee monthly and annual closing process and maintain chart of accounts and program cost center codes.

 

4.       Oversee Human Resources

§  Oversee SOPHE’s hired outsourcing for human resource, payroll, and benefits services

§  Maintain internal human resource records and policies in compliance with federal/local laws and regulations.

§  Oversee human resource benefits plans and staff enrollment/changes.

 

Qualifications

§  CPA with accounting and public accounting experience.

§  Three – Four years’ experience, preferably in a non-profit association.  

§  Strong organizational and management skills.

§  Ability to see the big picture while focusing on the process and procedures necessary to produce deliverables.

§  Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work product.

§  Ability to meet and establish deadlines.

§  Flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

§  Intermediate to advanced applications software expertise (Excel, QuickBooks and AMS/LMS  software).

§  Corporate accounting experience, including Administration, HR and payroll.

§  Experience in forecasting and budgeting.

§  Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

 

Salary Range/Benefits

Full-time exempt position with excellent employer-paid health, dental, and life insurance and other benefits.  No relocation expenses provided.  Salary commensurate with experience. Some teleworking.
