Message from FY18 Board President
I am truly humbled and honored for this opportunity to serve as your president. Our society was made strong by great CPAs of the past, but continues to be strong thanks to the CPAs of today. Beginning our 95th year is impressive, but maybe even more so is how we continue to evolve and innovate, adding new programs and initiatives.
I recall when I first was getting involved in the Society 10 years ago that it was an exciting time to be a member. Somehow after all this time, it stays exciting. We take risks, we don’t just adapt to change- we get ahead of change. One of the great things about being a smaller organization is how agile we can be in anticipating our member needs, in implementing our vision and in pivoting quickly when we need to. We see strategic opportunities, and we say “yes”.
In the coming year, you’ll see us really work to leverage our strengths. Our Educational Foundation is going to be more than a vehicle for CPE and scholarships-we are working to take a bigger leadership role in this profession beyond the DC area and in those sectors where we already excel. We’re also making some significant investments in new technologies to meet our members where and when they need us. We have already started this by launching new apps for the Women’s Section and the DeBoe Leadership Program, but we won’t stop there. The staff is now planning for our first Real Estate Conference in years, and for a new Technology Expo next spring. This year, we are also going to work to make sure our brand tells our story. You’ll see some changes to better reflect who we are and what we mean to this city, this country and this profession.
I want to encourage you to continue engaging in our mission, to be a mentor to someone, to find ways to support our millennial members, and work to ensure that our society represents the richness and diversity found in this area. With your help, I know we’ll continue to build a society that will serve the profession and generations of CPAs for years to come.
