The Greater Washington Society of CPAs (GWSCPA) serves the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. Active membership is drawn from a twenty-five mile radius from the White House — essentially DC, Montgomery & Prince Georges Counties in Maryland and Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax Counties, as well as Prince William County in Virginia.
Accounting firm professionals, not-for-profit financial professionals, government financial professionals, accounting and business faculty and students can become members.
In 1996 the GWSCPA became the first CPA society in the nation to expand membership opportunities to non-CPA financial professionals (Affiliate Members). The GWSCPA Affiliate Category covers non-CPAs who are financial professionals working at a CPA firm or sole practitioner CPA and financial professionals in government, not-for-profit organizations and academia.

Networking opportunities abound at regular society and committee meetings, CPE seminars, workshops, world class conferences and social activities. The Greater Washington Society has an outstanding reputation and holds numerous well attended events annually that put you in contact with the people you need to know. Through our Member Directory, you can stay in touch with old friends and develop new contacts.
We offer relevant and timely CPE in a variety of formats to accommodate the busy schedules of DC professionals in all areas of business, updates, conferences, and computer training. You will earn the CPE you need, hear world class speakers and stay up to date with professional developments. As a member, you will also be able to keep track of your CPE, with our new online CPE Tracker.
Our many sections serve the unique needs of our members, from the Young and Emerging Accountants group to the Government Auditing and Accounting Section. As a Member, either CPA or non-CPA financial professional, you will have the opportunity to fill a leadership role in this society and to join a professional interest area that meets your unique needs and connects you with your peers.
We currently award at least five annual scholarships, four directly and one via NABA-DC for one of their student members. We have two very special awards each year. The Past President’s Award is presented to a student demonstrating outstanding leadership, while the Sue Marcum Memorial Award recognizes a student who has made significant community contributions.
The GWSCPA is local and convenient. Our events, activities, and programs to CPAs are right here in our Nation’s Capital and nothing compares with face to face communication. Most of our meetings and CPE takes place at our downtown DC Offices at 1111 19th St, NW, although committees frequently move their meetings around to accommodate their members.
When members speak with a strong, unified voice, people listen. The Society represents you before the DC City Council, the mayor’s office, DC Office of Tax and Revenue, our congressional delegation, the federal government and the DC Board of Accountancy. We work collaboratively with other state CPA societies to strengthen the profession nationally and internationally.
Our new website features the ability to post job opportunities and search resumes exclusively for GWSCPA Members. We additionally work to connect members with organizations seeking board members and audit committee members.
The Society offers Find A CPA, our online referral free to all member firms in good standing. We can put potential clients directly in contact with you through this service, which highlights your firm’s services.
