Elizabeth (Betsy) Piper/Bach is a recognized, experienced leader in the investment and retirement industries. She has successfully built and lead organizations, institutional investment businesses, retirement plan custody platforms, as well as personal and institutional trust businesses within trust companies all with a bottom line focus on asset growth and profitability.
Betsy is the President of ASAE Business Services, Inc., the for-profit subsidiary of the American Society of Association Executives. Prior to ASAE she was Senior Vice President and COO for NADA Retirement the for-profit subsidiary of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) responsible for developing and executing its strategic direction and leadership. She oversaw the operational, investment and fiduciary aspects of this $3.3B multiple employer defined contribution business serving 1,800 plan sponsors and 67,000 participants as well as the NADA Life Insurance Trust.
Previously she was President, Cardinal Trust and Investments, a $4B wealth management subsidiary of Cardinal Financial Corporation with oversight responsibility of its Wealth Management Group, comprised of a broker/dealer, trust company and investment advisory subsidiaries. As Trustee and discretionary investment manager of multiple employer plans, she was an early entrant to retirement plan bundled services including programs; 3(38) discretionary investment management, 3(16) Plan Administration and 3(21) full scope discretionary trustee roles.
Betsy served as Senior Vice President and Chief Trust Officer of FBR National Trust, a subsidiary of the Freidman, Billings and Ramsey investment bank and in various leadership positions in several financial services organizations and internet companies, bringing growth and success to each.
She currently serves as an Independent Director/ Financial Expert on the board of AdvisorShares. She is past Chair of ASAE Business Services, Inc. and board member. She is also past Chair of the Investment Management Consultants Association and board member for 12 years.
Betsy is a member of several financial industry organizations including: Investment and Wealth Institute, Financial Planning Association, American Bankers Association and the American Bar Association.
She is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA), and Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA).
Betsy earned a Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in Washington, DC; a Masters of Education and Human Development from George Washington University, Washington, DC; and a BS from St. Cloud University, St. Cloud, MN.
