GWSCPA Celebrates Centennial

One hundred years ago today, on February 27th, 1923, a small group of professionals established the DC Institute of CPAs here in our Nation’s Capital. What began with three local businessmen has grown to become an important and influential voice in the profession not only locally, but regionally and nationally as well.

Our celebration and recognition of this milestone kicks off today with a Proclamation of February 27th 2023 as “CPA Day” in Washington DC. But that’s just the beginning. The Centennial festivities will be ongoing for all of 2023 and will offer something for every member to get involved in while observing this occasion with us.

As we reflect on 100 years of history, it’s amazing to think how much has changed. But we also know that much remains the same.  Our membership looks very different than it did in 1923, as does the work you each do and the ways in which you do it. But the core values of this profession, and this society, remain unchanged. We’re here to advance and protect the profession and your individual and collective professional success through education, connection with your professional community and by supporting you as leaders.

So we will spend this year celebrating our history, sharing the exciting projects that our members are working on today, and looking to the future of the profession and to our next 100 years. There will be some special events throughout the year, and special projects that highlight the importance of this profession in our community. You will notice a different Centennial logo in some of our communications, as we recognize events and projects with posts tagged as #Then, #Now and #Next.

We also hope you’ll share your stories about the profession and the GWSCPA as we move into our next century together. And we thank you for being part of our story.

Sincerely,

Kari Bedell
