Accounting Manager at the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine
ADLM, a DC-based dynamic, international scientific/medical society of clinical laboratory professionals, physicians, and research scientists focused on clinical chemistry and related disciplines, seeks an Accounting Manager.
Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager supervises and manages the activities of the Accounting Specialist and Staff Accountant in calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain and record financial data for use in maintaining accounting records and to maintain and report on the status of ADLM’s financial records by performing the duties below.
Responsibilities Include:
- Completes the monthly close of the organization’s accounting records on a timely basis.
- Gathers financial information from appropriate ADLM personnel to ensure monthly financial statements include all data.
- Generates additional journal entries as necessary to complete monthly financial statements.
- Ensures accuracy of bank statements by reviewing reconciled bank statements.
- Balances all schedules and subsidiary ledgers to general ledger.
- Reconciles all balance sheet accounts at least quarterly, including but not limited to cash, accounts receivable, and deferred revenue.
- Prepares audit work papers and assists with the annual financial audit engagement to a successful, timely conclusion.
- Assists in the preparation of all required not-for-profit informational returns such as IRS Form 990.
- Directs tax and registration compliance with various jurisdictions, including federal and state sales and registration filings. Files for out-of-state tax-exempt status and tax/information returns as required by federal and various state laws.
- Reviews 1099 Forms to ensure they are accurately prepared, distributed, and filed within prescribed deadlines.
- Supervises and reviews accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, as performed by the Accounting Specialist and Staff Accountant, respectively.
- Other duties as assigned by the Controller and/or the CFO.
- As required, travels to and attends the Annual Meeting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or equivalent in accounting or business and four to six years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Non-profit association experience preferred.
- At least two years of supervisory experience is required.
- Proficiency with accounting and association management systems (Sage Intacct preferred).
- Demonstrated attention to detail, time management, and communication skills (verbal, listening, written)

ADLM currently is working a hybrid office schedule with staff coming into the office one day a week with the ability to work remotely from home up to four days a week.
