POSITION TITLE:  VP of Finance and Accounting DEPARTMENT:  Finance and Accounting LOCATION:  Arlington, VA STATUS:  Full-time, Exempt SUPERVISOR:  President

POSITION SUMMARY:

This executive leadership position for a global media distribution company is responsible for strategic financial oversight of the company’s growth and profitability, including all finance, accounting, and treasury operations. The Vice President of Finance and Accounting will lead the long-term financial planning process, provide content investment guidance and collaborate with the executive management team to set the vision and achieve goals for revenue growth which are key priorities for this role.

COMMITMENTS:

  1. Financial Management:  Manage the company’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and auditing. Ensure financial transactions, policies, and procedures meet the organization’s short-term and long-term business objectives and are conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements and the most relevant and appropriate accounting principles and standards.
  2. Strategic Planning:  Develop and implement the financial strategy of the company, including long-term financial planning and forecasting, and risk management.
  3. Content Investment:  Guide and collaborate on the annual and long-term content investment strategy. Establish annual content budgets and the impact on cash flow. Track industry changes that impact individual investments while working with the stakeholder teams to craft investment structures that meet financial goals and business objectives.
  4. Financial Reporting:  Manage the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements. Ensure the timely reporting of key financial metrics to the Board, business owners, and other key stakeholders.
  5. Compliance:  Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions, including tax planning and compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  6. Treasury:  Manage banking relationships and ensure adequate cashflow for present and future business needs.
  7. Leadership:  Lead the Finance and Accounting department and functions and ensure effective talent management. Participate in organizational strategy and decisions as a member of the executive management team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct all aspects of finance operations, including annual budgeting, forecasting and long-range financial planning, monthly reporting, strategic planning, management reporting, and analysis.
  • Manage the short-term and long-term cashflow of the company.
  • Develop and manage all relationships with lending/financial institutions.
  • Transform financial data into strategic insights, guide and advise operational leaders towards increased profitability through meaningful dialogue and proactive financial planning.
  • Evaluate potential investments and develop and maintain financial models to support growth initiatives across the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of financial plans with strategic objectives.
  • Drive improvements in financial processes, systems, and reporting capabilities to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Mentor and develop department team members, promoting a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth.
  • Guide all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, receivables, payables, royalties, tax, payroll, treasury, audits, and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and best business practices.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial statement analysis, management reporting, regulatory issues, and tax planning. 
  • Expert financial modeling and analysis.
  • Proficient in Power BI, MS Excel and financial software applications, such as Microsoft 365 and Prophix.
  • Knowledgeable in internal accounting controls and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, strategic, thought leader, problem-solver, future-focused, and goal-driven.
  • Storyteller, collaborator, and relationship builder across all organizational levels, contributors (internal and external), vendors, and partners including the Finance Committee and Board.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • 7+ years relevant experience in financial planning and analysis and accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • Media industry experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree (Management, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline) required
  • Graduate degree, preferred (Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related discipline)
  • CPA, a plus
