Job Description: The Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting will manage a team and report to the Sr. Director of Finance Operations. This position was created to support ongoing improvements and the requirements of a growing organization through acquisition and organic growth. The role will be responsible for the revenue recognition and cost of goods sold cycle for two of the company’s largest revenue streams, working closely with multiple departments including sales, business operations, and treasury operations. A primary goal of the team is to ensure the end-to-end process is as automated as possible.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare reporting on customer profitability, including comparison of original deal forecast to actuals
- Create and implement new processes to improve close efficiency and accuracy within a growing organization
- Partner cross-functionally with the sales organization to ensure accounting accuracy; respond to revenue-related inquiries and ad-hoc requests to deliver clear analysis, insights, and recommendations to internal stakeholders
- Manage and lead the Revenue Accounting organization through developing talent
- Ensure revenue and associated COGS are booked in the correct periods
- Implement improvements to corporate systems and business processes to increase automation of revenue and COGS recognition
- Oversee P&L ownership from Gross Profit and above: revenue recognition and Cost of Goods Sold
- Ensure new contracts are set up to be booked using the correct revenue recognition methodology
- Lead balance sheet reconciliation of deferred revenue and select other accounts
- Oversee contract assets and deferred revenue accounts and establish review and clean-up processes; support interim and year-end audits; maintain strong internal control environment
- Review complex contract terms and multi-element deals to assess performance obligations and revenue timing and compliance with ASC 606
- Collaborate with IT on data migration, testing, and user acceptance to ensure data integrity, completeness, and readiness for go-live projects, updates, and integrations
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in management, finance, or equivalent
- CPA or equivalent
- Significant experience in team leadership, individual development, task allocation, and coaching
- Solid understanding of US GAAP accounting practices and principles, including FASB ASC 606 and related guidance
- Significant experience in business process improvement with a focus on deliverables
- Effective time management skills to balance team workload and meet deadlines
- Strong active learning skills — understanding the implications of new information for current and future problem-solving and decision-making
- Strong critical thinking skills — using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches
- NetSuite ARM experience
